<h3>The Mission Valley Powwow Experience</h3>We have two powwows on our reservation in July:​Package 1: The Arlee Celebration (Early July)<ul>
<li>​About the Powwow: This is the oldest and one of the largest powwows on the reservation, with a focus on celebrating the nation's birthday and showcasing the Salish and Pend d'Oreille traditions. It's a large, multi-day event with a strong community feel.</li>

​Accommodations:

<li>​"Traditional" Camping: Camping is available on the Arlee Powwow Grounds, offering a fully immersive experience. Remember that this is a family-friendly, community space with rules against alcohol, drugs, and fireworks.</li>
<li>​Hotel Stay: Stay in nearby Missoula for more comfort and amenities. It's a short, scenic drive to Arlee and we can pick you up.</li>
<li>Camp Ka Papa camping: Camping is available at our campground and we can provide transportation via a packaged price.</li>

They developed deep knowledge of the bison's habits, migrations, and the land itself, using this understanding to sustain their communities. The Salish and Kootenai employed sophisticated hunting techniques, often involving corrals or carefully coordinated drives, to harvest the animals. Every part of the bison was utilized—the meat for sustenance, the hides for clothing and shelter, the bones and horns for tools and ceremonial items. The bison's spirit was revered, and the animal played a significant role in their oral traditions, ceremonies, and worldview, symbolizing strength, resilience, and the interconnectedness of all life. The near-extermination of the bison herds in the late 19th century was a devastating blow, profoundly impacting the Salish and Kootenai people and their way of life.
